A great day for a ride - mostly sunny and warm - probably in the low thirties.
Nine riders gathered outside the Maleny High School and, despite initial fears, parking was no problem as the year twelves had finished school. Around 9.30 am the intrepid band set off.
The start was a downhill zoom to McCarthy Road and a gentler downhill
stretch to the Maleny Dairy with picturesque views of lush green fields
and dairy cows.
But then reality hit with an uphill stretch cycled by a couple but walked by most.
That was followed by a fairly gentle downhill to Mountain View Road where we rested in the shade admiring the Agapanthus (Lily of the Nile).
The trail beside Mountain View Road undulated gently downhill before a steeper climb to the front gates of the luxury horse stud (for sale if anyone interested and has a spare 10-20 million) where we communed with a couple of horses.
Then a gentle more or less flat ride from there to coffee at the Mary Cairncross
cafe - with a cake selection you would not believe, the chocolate slice was fabulous.
We all walked off our ride (only 4 km but vigorous nevertheless) and coffee and cake with a gentle stroll through the rainforest before the return ride - there were a few walkers and sitters on the way back especially that last hill up Bunya St to the cars.
We then squeezed seven bikes on three cars and headed to Baroon Pocket Dam for lunch with a view and a welcome breeze - Adele and Leonie were in the water faster than the rest could get out their lunch and we won't talk about what they wore.
