SANDSTONE POINT TO BEACHMERE

Coffee Time

18 December 2015

Thank you Isabel for leading an excellent ride enjoyed by Tami, Judee, James, Chris, Nigel, Fiona and Tom. The weather was hot, not too windy, cooled by a sprinkle of rain and so was comfortable cycling conditions.

We rode 41kms with an average speed of 17 kph over 4 hours including coffee.

Isabel's Innovan created much admiration and interest.

The Beach Shak Cafe on Biggs Avenue was voted superb coffee and well worth a visit at times other than a BUG occasion.

Sightseeing of the Beachmere area included visiting the Bayside Drive Lagoon but this day there were no swans swimming.

A repeat of this ride is highly recommended.

CURRIMUNDI NORTH - THURSDAY 14 JANUARY 2016

Seventeen riders braved the new ride north from Currimundi and the picture shows most of them posing at the southern end of Lake Kawana.

We gathered at Lake Currimindi (north end of Watson Street) and set off at 9.30am along a shady winding shared path westwards staying to the south and west of Currimundi Creek.

We then followed a connecting path under power lines to the fairly new urban suburb of Birtinya and north-east along Birtinya and Regatta Blvds to the south end of the Lake Kawana rowing course where the picture was taken.

The next stage was about 3km along the eastern shore of the lake to the Link Cafe on the north-west corner of the lake - a small but friendly cafe with great coffee and service.

After we dragged ourselves away from the cafe we rode north along Kawana Way and Wyuna Canal to Kawana Island Blvd. We followed that back across Nicklin Way at the lights onto Palkana Drive to take us east to the foreshore. We then rode south along Oceanic Drive with our starting point now about 8km to the south along quiet streets and bushy tracks stopping to walk to the beach on the way.

Back at Currimundi 3 hours after we left, swims and lunch were the order of the day. Everyone seemed to have an enjoyable 22km ride sometimes shady in the trees, sometimes sunny on the streets or by the lakes and canals but the latter with a cooling breeze.
