WOORIM BEACH RIDE - 21st JUNE 2014

Saturday 21st June was a perfect day for a beach ride around to Woorim with a very low tide at 10.30 a.m, a beautiful morning with no wind.

A few hardy souls managed to negotiate onto the beach at South Esplanade while the remainder joined the group at Red Beach.

The 14 riders enjoyed a great ride to Woorim with the sand reasonably hard all the way. The Sandgate Canoe Club had also decided to do a paddle from Bongaree to Dingo Creek (half way up Woorim Beach) so we are told. We were amazed at the speed they were travelling which was about equal to our speed on the bikes!

After an hour's rest (and coffee, of course) at Woorim, six riders rode the return trip back to Bongaree Jetty.  Joyce even kept riding past the jetty along the beach on the passage side.

It was an enjoyable ride with many looking forward to the next beach ride.

RED BEACH TO WOORIM (ON THE BEACH) - JANUARY 25th 2014

After the Twist

We can think of nothing better
Than cycling on the beach
Chase the tide and dodge the waves,
Your troubles will be out of reach
On the beach

On the beach, you can ride to a rock 'n' roll
On the beach, wind in your hair, play it with soul
On the beach, you can sing out loud or twist and shout
On the beach, everybody hear us, come on out
On the beach - Come on, everybody, pedal those feet
On the beach, you can do those wheelies with anyone you meet
'Cause your troubles are out of reach
On the beach

SHORNCLIFFE TO REDCLIFFE - 23rd JANUARY 2014

Twelve of us assembled at Shorncliffe for a ride to Redcliffe. Weather warm, breezes blew and kept us cool. We rode across the Ted Smout Bridge, a brisk pace was set by the leaders, great bridge for bikers and walkers with a splendid smooth surface. Could it be a role model for the Bribie Bridge? One day perhaps!

Mustering Along the Route

The Bee Gees joined us for a short while but Barry didn't think it a good idea for a couple of reasons: they hadn't ridden their bikes for a long while and they wanted to Stay Alive. Maurice hadn't been well the last weekend, in fact, he had Saturday Night Fever and Robin said, You should be Dancing – not riding bikes. He reminded his brothers that they were off to Massachusetts in the near future and didn't want a broken leg as well a broken heart. Plus he didn't want to take a tumble and get Spicks and Specks on his nice new clothes. A really funny bunch of guys, Barry Started a Joke that kept the whole group laughing, Robin didn't find it that funny, he was a bit sad and asked us, 'How can you mend a broken heart.' We advised, 'have a chat and a dance' – a bit of Jive Talking should do the trick.

We bade them farewell after our morning tea break but they invited us along to their place for a bit of a photo shoot with them. We happily agreed.  (See photos).  We then went on our way back to Shorncliffe. The last four km were a bit arduous as a strong headwind made the going tough. Soon enough though we parked our bikes and bottoms on a bench and broke bread. Our timing was spot on, as soon as we were under cover the heavens opened.
A good ride with a bit of fun – and not everybody can say that they rode their bikes with the Bee Gees.

More photos from the camera of Bob Stutter.
